Cardwell ranch was established in 1946 and is owned and operated by a 6th generation Texas ranching family. We raise Savanna and Kiko goats in Southwest Texas near Uvalde. Regenerative agriculture is of great interest to us and we take a holistic approach to managing the livestock, wildlife and habitat that is in our care.

We raise New Zealand, purebred and commercial Kiko goats. We also have fullblood, percentage and commercial Savanna goats.
Kikos are hardy, fast growing and adaptable. They typically have better than average parasite tolerance and resistance and are a very maternal breed. They were developed in the wet climate of New Zealand with the goal of producing a hardy, hands off meat goat.
Savanna bucks are very good at adding muscle and uniformity to your kid crop. They are excellent in a cross breeding program, providing grade 1 kids for your market. The does have good maternal qualities and are easy fleshing and hardy.
We were living on the gulf coast on an old rice farm on a bayou, three miles from the Gulf. The place had grown up in tallow trees and Cherokee rose that was nearly impenetrable and in our ignorance we thought it would be a great idea to buy some goats to eat all the brush. So a few hundred sale barn goats and 6 Boer bucks were purchased and a very steep learning curve followed shortly. That was 2005 or so and by 2008 between the worms and the predators, we were ready to throw in the towel and I said let’s try a Kiko buck. That first little white buck and a pair of LGDs turned things around for us and now 15 years later we are still passionate about the Kiko breed.
